Shooting Dogs
While many dogs can be trained to obey their owners and complete the task set at hand, there are some that are naturally more adept than others. In the matter of hunting, some dogs are inherently better at the task of pointing and retrieving than others. But which breed outshines the rest? While there is no black and white answer, there are definitely some who outshine the rest.
Many hunters who are perusing the myriad of shooting dogs available decide on breeds in the Pointer and Setter families. These dogs are easy to train and follow commands easily. They aren't gun shy, meaning they do not fear the sound of the gun discharging and can stay focused in the midst of a good hunt.
Scent hounds are also great shooting dogs. They can lock on the scent of an animal and pursue it endlessly. Bloodhounds are a perfect example. Once their owner releases them, they'll follow their prey for hours or until they're called off the scent. Scent hounds make great shooting dogs because of their loyal natures and their ease of training.
Of course, others would argue that the best shooting dogs are those found in the Retriever family. These dogs are not only highly intelligent and fearless; they are great with families and other pets. Their coats often have a waterproof quality - combine that with their love of the water and you have a great hunting dog.
Many different breeds make great shooting dogs, but as you can see there are those who excel more than others. Finding the right one isn't difficult once you know what their strengths and weaknesses are and how well their breed's personality fits with your family and lifestyle.
